Cable Street
About the Show
This electrifying new musical takes audiences back to October 1936 in London's East End, where Sammy, Mairead, and Ron are shaping their futures on Cable Street when Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists march toward the heart of their neighborhood. One hundred thousand Jews, Irish workers, and communists unite to blockade the road they call home. As they take a stand against hatred, their lives are forever changed. Written by composer-lyricist Tim Gilvin and playwright Alex Kanefsky, and directed by Adam Lenson, Cable Street makes its international premiere at 59E59 Theaters as part of the Brits Off Broadway festival.
Following three acclaimed, sold-out London runs at Southwark Playhouse and Marylebone Theatre, the production arrives in New York with its award-nominated cast, including Olivier Award nominee Debbie Chazen as Kathleen, Ethan Pascal Peters as Moishe, and Max Alexander-Taylor as Sean. The Guardian praised its "Hamilton-like hip-hop-ish commentary" and "witty Sondheim homage," while WhatsOnStage awarded it five stars, calling it "an absolute belter of a show." A celebration of community and a rallying call to action, this timeless story resonates powerfully today.
