Step into a musical seance where the veil is thin, the music is wild, and the spirits of memory come roaring to life. Animal Wisdom is the creation of Drama Desk and two-time Obie Award winner Heather Christian, a 2025 MacArthur "Genius" Fellow whose work blends storytelling, requiem, and family mythology into a musical ritual made for sinners and saints alike. Vogue called the piece "dazzlingly original," and this off-Broadway premiere at Signature Theatre marks a thrilling new production directed by Keenan Tyler Oliphant.

Originally developed at The Bushwick Starr, where it was also adapted into a feature film, Animal Wisdom dives deep into the relationship between the soul, the seen, and the unseen. The production stars Kenita R. Miller, with Emma Duncan performing at select matinees. Christian's raucous, singular music fuses blues, gospel, and folk to pay tribute to the forces that shape our lives. The production runs in the Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center.
